Finding your space: the best study spots at UNSW College

Play icon

Whether you need total silence to prep for an exam or a lively spot to brainstorm a group project, we’ve got a space for you. Here is the breakdown of where to go based on your study style.

1. For deep focus and total silence

When you need uninterrupted time to concentrate, choosing the right environment can help you stay focused for longer and get through your work more efficiently.

  • Student Lounge (Ground Floor): Our version of a library. It’s the quietest spot on campus - perfect for when you need to disappear into your notes.
  • UNSW Sydney Libraries: As a UNSW College student, you have full access to the Main and Law Libraries. Use the online booking system to snag a private pod, individual room, or media booth.

2. For productive group work (the "middle ground")

Some tasks are better tackled together. These spaces strike a balance between quiet and collaboration, giving you room to share ideas without losing momentum.

  • Student Hub: This is a flexible, light-filled lounge with modular furniture you can move around.

Bonus: This is where Study Club happens! After hours, you can get help from UNSW Sydney peer mentors and collaborate with classmates in a relaxed setting.

  • Student Services: Not just an office! This is your go-to for Student Progress drop-in sessions. If you’re stuck on an assessment or need a study strategy, just walk in and ask.

3. For social study and breaks

Not every study session needs to be intense. Having spaces where you can reset, recharge, or study more casually can help you stay productive throughout the day.

  • Common Room: The heart of campus life. It’s got a brand-new kitchen (and a microwave wall) to keep you fueled. It’s the best place to hang out between classes or do some casual reading while your phone charges at the secure station.
  • Courtyard: If you work better with fresh air and greenery, head outside. It’s vibrant and social -perfect for a coffee from the cart or a quick game of ping-pong to clear your head before your next lecture.

Quick tip: use your resources

Don't forget that "study support" isn't just a desk. Take advantage of weekly tutor consultations and the Student Progress team. If you have a question about anything from a difficult math concept to how to progress to UNSW Sydney, they are there to help.
