The Gateway Admission Pathway is an early offer scheme to UNSW Sydney. If you're eligible for the pathway, you could receive an offer to study a diploma at UNSW College.

Received an offer through Gateway for a Diploma you didn't preference?

Not everyone receives an offer to their preferred UNSW degree, either because the degree is highly competitive or their ATAR didn't meet the adjusted requirement. When that happens, UNSW looks for a related program that's right for you – there's more than one path to your dream degree.

Why study a diploma through the Gateway Admission Pathway?

A direct path to second year at UNSW Sydney 
You can progress to second year of your chosen UNSW Sydney degree upon successful completion of a 12-month diploma. 

High School Year 12 progresses to either UNSW Sydney bachelor's degree or Diploma and then to Second Year at UNSW Sydney bachelor's degree High School Year 12 progresses to either UNSW Sydney bachelor's degree or Diploma and then to Second Year at UNSW Sydney bachelor's degree

Note: The Gateway Admission Pathway is open to students who have completed Year 12 with an ATAR. Check the website for the full eligibility criteria

Equivalent to a first-year bachelor's degree with extra support

Study the same course material as a first-year bachelor's degree students, in smaller class sizes, with extra teaching time, and additional academic and support services.

Covered by a Commonwealth Supported Place

If you're a domestic student and receive an offer to a diploma through the Gateway Admission Pathway, you’ll receive a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) – meaning lower fees. HECS-HELP is also available, so you don't pay upfront.

FAQs

  • If you’ve received an offer through the Gateway Admission Pathway to a diploma but did not list it as one of your preferred programs in your application, it may be because the degree you listed is competitive, or you did not meet the adjusted ATAR requirement for that degree. 

  • UNSW College operates as a separate institution, fully owned by UNSW Sydney. Students access the same prestigious education experience, with expanded opportunities to progress into their degree at UNSW Sydney or progress their career.

  • No, you can’t directly transfer into a degree that isn’t linked to a diploma. 

    If you wish to transition into a different UNSW degree after completing your diploma, you will need to reapply via UAC for your UNSW degree of interest. If successful, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) once you have enrolled, however it is not guaranteed.
